Spain’s weather forecaster issued red alerts for extreme rain, two weeks after deadly floods killed more than 220 people in the coastal region of Valencia.

Barcelona's El Prat airport, Spain's second busiest, said 50 flights were cancelled or delayed and 17 diverted on Monday, while the city closed some flooded metro stations and regional trains were suspended.

The flash floods were caused by heavy rain, which by Wednesday morning had begun "easing off," according to the country's meteorological agency.
