Helene is lashing Florida, Georgia and the Carolinas with heavy wind and rain, causing flooding and power outages.

In Clearwater, one of the hardest-hit regions, water levels surged to a record 8.6 feet, eclipsing the previous high of 6.8 feet. Similarly, in East Bay, levels peaked at 7.3 feet, surpassing the old record of 6.7 feet.

Georgians are already feeling the impacts from Hurricane Helene as its projected path is set to bisect the state and spread bands of heavy rain and storms from coast to mountains. Savannah is still reeling from the aftereffects of Tropical Storm Debby in early August that dumped record amounts of rain while north Georgia is preparing for the strongest punch from Helene as it moves up through the state.
