The death toll from the devastating floods in South Africa s Eastern Cape Province has climbed to 86, a senior government official

Officials say at least 49 people have died in flooding in South Africa’s Eastern Cape province. An extreme cold front brought heavy rain and snow to parts of the country.

The Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, has confirmed that the number of the deceased from the Eastern Cape floods has risen to 86. The number of people rescued is 38. Search and Rescue teams are still on the ground recovering more bodies.
