Thailand's Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira on Wednesday pushed the government's case for a cut in key interest rates ahead of a meeting with the central bank where the inflation target and the strong baht will be on the agenda.

Thailand’s new government is piling pressure on the central bank, with its finance chief pushing for lower interest rates and a higher inflation target to help stem the baht’s strongest quarter in more than 25 years.

Thailand’s Finance Minister Pichai Chunhavajira and Bank of Thailand Governor Sethaput Suthiwartnarueput are scheduled to hold talks next week amid mounting pressure on the central bank to act to temper a currency rally that’s threatening the nation’s exports and tourism.
