A winter storm could bring up to 7 inches of snow in the Great Smoky Mountains. Drivers should be prepared for closures and delays.

Cold temperatures are forecast to linger in East Tennessee throughout the week. Snow showers moved across the higher elevations with up to at least five inches, according to the National Weather Service in Morristown.

The National Park Service has closed Newfound Gap Road and Foothills Parkway West in the Great Smoky Mountains due to snow.

Ahead of the weekend's forecast winter weather, U.S. 441/Newfound Gap Road between Gatlinburg, Tennessee and Cherokee, North Carolina, is closed in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The road closed at 8 a.m. Friday. There has been no announcement from the National Park Service when Newfound Gap Road could open again.

The Gatlinburg Bypass and Cherokee Orchard Road at Twin Creeks have been closed Wednesday due to snow and ice. The park shares updates regarding road closures on it’s website and the social media platform X.
