One person has died and one seriously injured following an accident on Interstate 4 in Lakeland, The Florida Highway Patrol said.

A driver died at the scene of a crash in Polk County on Sunday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Lakeland Police said the 50-year-old driver of the sedan, Maurice Knight, was driving southbound just before 9 p.m. on State Road 33 in a silver Toyota sedan when he hit a curb. The car entered the center median, crossed into the northbound lanes and hit a black Toyota pickup truck.

The Lakeland Police Department says officers responded to a crash that happened in the 4100 block of State Road 33 just before 9 p.m. According to authorities, a silver Toyota sedan was headed south on State Road 33 as a black Toyota pickup truck was headed north.

The fatal Lakeland crash was a single-vehicle accident, while four vehicles were involved in a chain-reaction crash near Frostproof.
