An earthquake that struck early Thursday morning near Victoria, British Columbia was felt in Washington state. The Pacific Northwest Seismic Network (PNSN) says the quake was reported at 4:05 a.m. PT about 12 miles northeast of Victoria. It was recorded at a depth of 32 miles.

A 4 magnitude earthquake shook the waters of the Haro Strait between San Juan Island and Victoria, British Columbia, early Thursday morning, according to USGS.

There were reports of shaking in Victoria and Vancouver, as a magnitude 4.0 earthquake hit early Thursday morning

The quake was centred near Sidney and D’Arcy Islands, just east of the Saanich Peninsula, according the U.S. Geological Survey.

Collin Paul, a seismologist with Natural Resources Canada, said the earthquake was "lightly felt" along the south coast of Vancouver Island, between Sooke and Ladysmith, and in Metro Vancouver. "People in Victoria had light shaking, and in Vancouver, we had weak shaking," he said.

A small earthquake hit B.C.’s South Coast early Thursday, with people reporting shaking in Metro Vancouver and on Vancouver Island. Emergency Info B.C. said the 4.0 quake hit near Saanichton on Vancouver Island and that there were no reports of any damage or injury. The U.S. Geological Survey also said it was a 4.0-magnitude quake.
