WASHINGTON — Police are investigating a different type of dognapping in DC. According to investigators, someone stole a 500-pound bronze statue called "The Scottie" from Virginia Avenue Dog Park.

According to police, the incident occurred on January 24, between midnight and early afternoon. Police say a bronze statue depicting a dog, weighing about 500 lbs., was stolen from a park in the 1000 block of L Street, Southeast.

Bernadette Blum, a longtime teacher at River Park Nursery School, passed away in 2016. Community members raised money to erect the now-stolen statue in her honor.

It’s big, it’s bronze and now, it’s missing: police in D.C. are searching for a statue of a dog that was stolen from a dog park in Southeast. However, community members say the statue was more than just a piece of art.
