ASBURY PARK, New Jersey (WABC) -- The lifeguard who was impaled by a beach umbrella in a freak accident this week said she knows how lucky she is and vows to return to the beach once she makes a full recovery.

ASBURY PARK - The beach lifeguard that was impaled by an umbrella has been released from the hospital after undergoing surgery to remove the pole, according to authorities. The 19-year-old lifeguard, whose identity has not been released, is expected to make a full recovery, according to the Asbury Park Fire Department.
