If state leaders really want to prevent Hasbro from bolting for Boston in 18 months, they’re going to need to think about options outside of the toymaker’s current home in Pawtucket, according to Laurie White at the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce.

According to the BBJ, the company’s lease on its Pawtucket headquarters is up in 2025. Hasbro is the second major toy brand to consider making Boston its home. Last year, Lego announced that it would be leaving its longtime North American headquarters in Enfield, Connecticut for Boston beginning in 2025.

Officials with Hasbro responded to a report on Monday, claiming that it is looking to move out of Rhode Island.

The toy giant has been touring space in the city’s downtown, considering leasing more than 200,000 square feet.

Hasbro – named for the two brothers, Henry and Helal Hassenfeld, who launched the company in Providence as a maker of pencil boxes in 1923 – dates to the time when Rhode Island’s capital city was an industrial powerhouse.

Massachusetts is in the running to attract the headquarters of a well-known consumer brand from a neighboring state with the potential relocation of toy and game maker Hasbro from Rhode Island.
