When the police confronted Shariful, he said that he was a resident of West Bengal. On probing further, Shariful was unable to give details of his residence and whereabouts in West Bengal.

In a meticulous 72-hour operation, Mumbai police tracked down the suspect in the Saif Ali Khan stabbing case by analyzing footage from approximately 500 CCTV cameras. The key to identifying the suspect was the distinctive color and pattern of his shoes.

The Mumbai police said they have found as many as 19 fingerprints of Bangladeshi national Mohammed Shariful Islam, alias Vijay Das, who allegedly attacked Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan at his house on January 16 in a failed robbery attempt, from the crime scene.
