Tesla just scrapped the Cybertruck range extender
Tesla’s response was to boost the range using a separate battery pack — the range extender — that would’ve been installed in the pickup’s bed by a Tesla technician. The automaker originally said the pack would launch in early 2025, though toward the end of last year it changed it to “mid 2025.”

Tesla has confirmed it has given up on plans to make a Cybertruck range extender to achieve the range it originally promised on the electric pickup truck. It started refunding deposits for the $16,000 extra battery pack. When Tesla unveiled the production version of the Cybertruck in late 2023, two main disappointments were the price and the range.
To make up for the lack of range, Tesla decided to launch a Range Extender for the Cybertruck to get close to its range goal.
