Islanders’ Noah Dobson week-to-week with lower-body injury
The New York Islanders announced Thursday that defenseman Noah Dobson will be out of the lineup week-to-week due a lower-body injury. Dobson sustained the injury Monday versus the Columbus Blue Jackets following an awkward collision with Blue Jackets center Cole Sillinger.
The New York Islanders are well outside the Eastern Conference playoff race, but they found some traction with five wins in their last seven games. Looking to continue their positive stretch, the Islanders will have to play without a key defenseman.
The Capitals have $3.65 million in available cap space, leaving them unable to absorb Nelson’s $6 million cap hit outright. According to Rosner, the Islanders "may be willing to retain some of his cap hit in any trade-deadline deal they make."
Owen Tippett scored the opening goal of the game for the Flyers. With the loss, the Orange and Black’s three-game winning streak also comes to an end.
As a pending unrestricted free agent with a $6-million cap hit, Nelson is seen as the ideal rental for teams looking to bolster their lineup ahead of the playoffs with the Islanders expected to miss the postseason, thus becoming sellers at the deadline.
