Manmohan Singh was born on September 26, 1932, in Gah. His early years were shaped by the tumult of the Partition of India, during which his family, like millions of others, was displaced. They relocated to India and eventually settled in Amritsar.

Gah, a quiet village 100 km southwest of Pakistan's Islamabad, is mourning the loss of its most notable former resident, Manmohan Singh, India’s former prime minister.
