Spanish authorities said they have discovered a suspected drug smuggling tunnel linking Morocco to the Spanish enclave of Ceuta in north Africa.

The hidden passage, dug 12 meters below ground, was discovered during a dramatic raid on a warehouse in Ceuta’s industrial zone, just meters away from the heavily guarded border double-gate with barbed wires on top separating the tiny Spanish enclave from Morocco.

A suspected drug smuggling tunnel connecting Morocco and the Spanish enclave, Ceuta, was discovered. The tunnel, found during an anti-trafficking operation, was equipped with basic lighting and measured 12 meters deep.

The tunnel used by drug traffickers to smuggle hashish from Morocco to Ceuta, and then to mainland Spain, extends into multiple galleries, Spanish media reported on Thursday.

In La Ceuta, a Spanish enclave in Africa, the Guardia Civil discovered a tunnel dug from Morocco. The tunnel links Morocco to this small Spanish territory, and thus to Europe. It was used by drug traffickers.
