Coco Gauff made a strong start to her Cincinnati Open quarterfinal against Jasmine Paolini but still picked up a third consecutive loss to the Italian after the No. 7 seed came back from a set down to win 2-6 6-4 6-3. The second-seeded American was all over the Italian early on in the match, claiming three breaks to routinely take the opener.

Gauff tossed 16 double faults for the match, a troubling trend that was evident at the Canadian Open. In three matches played in Canada, the 21-year-old recorded 42 double faults, with her three-set victory against Danielle Collins reaching 23. Her serve was looking under control in Cincinnati until tonight.
