The conflict between Israel and Hezbollah has deepened in recent days despite diplomatic efforts to move toward a temporary truce.

The strikes come after a warning was released by the Israeli army on social media, warning residents in the southern suburbs of Beirut that they were residing near a dozen Hezbollah facilities throughout the area, according to Reuters. A series of blasts were also heard across the capital city.

Hezbollah strongholds in Beirut's southern suburbs were hit by at least 12 heavy airstrikes on Tuesday, security sources and eyewitnesses said, as Israel's newly appointed defence minister rejected any talk of a possible ceasefire.
