Louisiana lawmakers advanced bills to flatten the state’s income tax rate and repeal the corporate franchise tax in a special legislative session focused on a sweeping tax reform package championed by Republican Gov.

If approved by the full House and Senate, the plan would eliminate the current tax brackets and move the state closer to eliminating the income tax.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The National Institutes of Health decided to transfer nearly two dozen retired research chimpanzees from a facility in New Mexico to a sanctuary in Louisiana.

The retired research chimpanzees, which had previously been deemed too frail to move, will be relocated to a Louisiana sanctuary.

About two dozen chimpanzees deemed too feeble to be moved a few years ago will be going to Chimp Haven after all. The NIH said originally they'd be kept in New Mexico for their own safety.
