Chat lets you connect with others, stay up to date on projects, and express yourself, whether you're in the office, at home, or on the go with the Microsoft Teams app. In Teams, you'll see three types of chats: One-on-one chats: to connect with people individually. Group chats: to speak with a group of people at the same time.

To start a new chat in Microsoft Teams (free): Tap the New Chat button. Type the name, email address, or phone number of the person with whom you want to chat in the To: field.

Use Microsoft Teams to chat online with your colleagues. Start a chat with another person. Select New message at the top of your list of chats and channels. Enter a person’s name. Compose your message in the box at the bottom of the chat. To open formatting options, select Format to the right of your message.
