The university’s official marks are the KU signature, the KU logo, and the current Jayhawk. No other marks, including unit signatures, may be created by any unit of the University of Kansas other than KU Marketing.

Aug 30, 2024 · Historically, it represents not one but two birds: the blue jay and the sparrow hawk. The original design of the Kansas Jayhawks logo didn’t emerge immediately: it was drawn in 1912 by cartoonist Henry Maloy, a student working for the university newspaper.
