Feb 22, 2003 · There is indeed a known issue with some higher end monitors and M1 compatibility and that HDR washout situation. I'd say go with a single USB-C cable solution and if you have USB ports on your monitor, or audio ports you can seamlessly move it all there in the back of the display and reduce cable clutter + unused free ports on the mini.

M1 Mac Mini + Dell U3421WE (34" ultrawide 3440x1440) working perfectly over usb-c-to-displayport. Colors are ypbpr. Usb hub in the monitor is working, at least with the monitor's USB input plugged into the Mac Mini's USB-A port. Over USB-C->USB-C, display and usb hub are working perfectly as well. Haven't bothered with HDMI yet.

Nov 19, 2020 · I tested GPU-accelerated video encoding on M1 Mac Mini (H.264 VideoToolBox) in Handbrake Beta and constant quality mode (new feature for M1 Macs, it works like -crf in libx264). With the same file size and options (FullHD, 60p), visual quality much worse than with libx264 or with nvenc (NVIDIA).
