An island of volcanic material continues to float in the lava lake in Halemauʻumaʻu crater. In these timelapse thermal images captured by the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory over the course of 24 hours, the island wanders slightly on the lake's surface (Clip repeats several times). According to USGS, the island is about 225 m (740 ft) in length, 110 m (360 ft) in width, and the island surface is about 6 m (20 ft) above the lake surface.
