Governor of Judea under Emperor Tiberius (26–36 CE), Pilate is remembered in Scripture for presiding over the trial and crucifixion of Jesus Christ (Matthew 27, Mark 15, Luke 23, John 18–19). Though Pilate found no fault in Jesus and hesitated to condemn Him, he eventually gave in to pressure from the religious leaders and the crowd, allowing Jesus to be crucified to maintain order.
