As a guide dog, I offer “intelligent disobedience” often. This does not mean that I am being disobedient. What it means is that if Mum gives me a command and it is not safe to follow that command, I won’t follow through on the command. . We are in Boston and Mum says this is always a place where she can find examples of intelligent disobedience. It hasn’t let her down yet. We were getting ready to cross the street right in front of the Paramount theater. Mum waited for cross signal to change. In

Ever heard of intelligent disobedience? It’s one of the most remarkable skills guide dogs learn. The ability to disobey a command if it puts their partner in danger. If a handler says “forward” but a car (or a bike) is coming, the dog will refuse to move. Yep, thats right, guide dogs are pretty incredible! Video Credit: @bluetheguidedog #GuideDogs #DogTraining #Independence #Confidence #Training #Dogs #VisuallyImpaired #Blindness | Two Blind Brothers

Intelligent disobedience means I will not follow a command if it is not safe to do so. In this scenario, I have stopped and will not find the curb because it brings us too close to the car. The car is running and I am trained to keep a safe distance. Generally, when I enter a car, it is not running, but Ashley has a fancy starter, which is nice because it gets the AC going for us. . I am also not moving forward to find the curb because I need to leave room for Mum to open the door without hittin

We had so many requests for intelligent disobedience examples that Mum got right on it. I am following Ethan out of Best Buy as Mum asked me to, but then I stop because there wasn’t enough room for me to keep following him. I mean, I could fit, but Mum and I together could not fit. And as you know, I will not continue forward unless there is room for both of us to get by. . I want to point out that I am stopping on my own. Mum is not stopping me with the leash, with her verbal command, or even w
